DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) -An Iowa Senate subcommittee considered a proposal today to add gun rights language to the Iowa constitution.

The amendment being considered says any restrictions of an Iowan’s right to bear arms should be subject to strict scrutiny.

Republicans say this is needed to protect the state against any future attempts at gun owner restrictions.

The Iowa legislature passed this measure in 2019. Of it passes again this year or next year, it will be put on the ballot in 2022.
