North Liberty standoff ends peacefully

NORTH LIBERTY, Iowa (KCRG) - Law enforcement arrested a man following a standoff in North Liberty on Thursday.

Officials identified the man as 38-year-old Jason Brazao, of Maryland.

Police were attempting to locate Brazao, who was reportedly armed and potentially suicidal, when a vehicle pursuit ended with Brazao fleeing, on foot, into a building and barricading himself inside. In a criminal complaint, officials said Brazao fired off at least six gunshots. Police set up a perimeter around the building located in the 300 block of Cherry Street.

The situation was resolved peacefully at around 6:30 p.m.

Brazao is facing charges of carrying weapons, burglary, assault, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, and interference with official acts.
