Two children seriously injured in Cedar Rapids scooter crash

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Authorities say two boys under the age of 12 were injured while riding a scooter in Cedar Rapids on Wednesday.

Cedar Rapids Police and Fire responded to the collision at around 4:03 P.M.

Officials say both boys received life-threatening injuries after riding a scooter in the alley between 15th Street and Camburn Court SE and exited on Mount Vernon Road SE, where they were struck by a vehicle.

Both boys were taken by Area Ambulance Service to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Westbound traffic on Mount Vernon Road is being rerouted to 19th Street SE as police work to investigate the scene of the accident.

Crews are responding to an accident in Cedar Rapids involving an e-scooter on Wednesday afternoon.

KCRG-TV9 is at the scene on Mt. Vernon Rd SE, between 15th Street SE and Camburn Ct. SE, where police have traffic blocked.

A rental scooter was seen laying in the median and a red Pontiac with a shattered windshield was stopped in the road.

Cedar Rapids Police were seen spray painting various spots in the road.
